BETWIXT
Sofia Hultén between Kendell Geers, Gabriel Orozco, Jonathan Monk, Cosima von Bonin, Paul Chan, and Mona Hatoum
Curator: Richard Julin

September 27-December 14, 2008

BETWIXT is an exhibition about the in-between. The impressions we take with us from our contact with one thing influence how we perceive the next thing we are confronted with. Impressions accumulate as we move around in the world. Like a kind of text, meaning, new expressions and insights are created. BETWIXT focuses on the moment between impressions, reflection — the feeling that emerges — what one retains.

These in-between moments of the exhibition will be occupied by Sofia Hultén, a Swedish artist living in Berlin. The exhibition's curator Richard Julin and Sofia Hultén have been discussing the work of a handful of artists for a period of time forming a collaboration where the selection of the artwork and the exhibition’s architecture and layout were worked on together.

In the course of the collaboration Sofia Hultén has been working on a new piece which is integrated into the exhibition with and between the works by Kendell Geers (South Africa), Gabriel Orozco (Mexico), Jonathan Monk (Great Britain), Cosima von Bonin (Germany), Paul Chan (USA) and Mona Hatoum (British Palestinian). All these artworks are part of the Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall collection and were created in the past two years.

Sofia Hultén was born in 1972 in Sweden and spent the years 1975-1997 in England. She lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Selected recent group exhibitions include Not at Home, Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart; Leergut Abholen, Rampe003, Berlin; We're not here to give you pleasure, rraum 02, Frankfurt; Art works: consulting, Haus am Lützowplatz, Berlin; Videoidyll, Staatsbank, Berlin; The Berlin Files, De Chiara Gallery, New York; Here and Now, Büro Friedrich, Berlin; Koch und Kesslau, Berlin; Losing It, Fenton Gallery, Ireland; Capri, Berlin; Out to Grass, Koch und Kesslau, Berlin; Uberlebensstrategien fur Untrainierte, Kunst-und Medienzentrum Adlershof, Berlin; Office, The Photographer's Gallery, London.
