L’Atlas: D’un monde l’autre
November 15-December 13, 2008

Geographically, the Atlas mountains are located the north west of Africa. Neo-graphically, the French street artist L'Atlas is located in his own realm. While the Moroccan range is home to many Beber tribes and seperates the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara, L'Atlas' mind is home to poetic visual visions and merges the skills of a Graffiti writer with those of a photographer and artist.

The mountains are secretive as is the publicity-shy urban artist L'Atlas, concluding that "actions tell more than words."

He uses the city's space to marry his unique graphics with manholes, murals, street corners and other found urban objects/situations. By using his trademark lines and drawn details — which heavily resemble Moorish ornamental layers — he creates strong, austere and clear-cut visual urban codes.

Already existing patterns are accentuated and become visible while otherwise they probably would have been overlooked. His photographs of Moroccan/North African quarters and surroundings, whether they show weaving women or nature, are composed with formal strength and sensual magic as well.

The gallery is publishing a catalogue of the artist's work to date to accompany the exhibition. It includes full illustrations and a text by Parisian curator, Anne-Lou Vicente.

Il Trifoglio Nero is publishing a limited edition, signed and numbered (of 100) screen prints of his performance at Centre Pompidou in May 2008.It is printed on Arches 88 paper (76 x 57 cm) and is available to buy online or by contacting the gallery, at the price of €240. Available from Saturday, 15th November 2008.
