Sea Pieces.
From Max Beckmann
to Gerhard Richter

June 8-September 16, 2007

Sea Pieces. From Max Beckmann to Gerhard Richter is a sequel to the exhibition Sea pieces. From Caspar David Friedrich to Emil Nolde, at Hamburger Kunsthalle, summer 2005. This is the next episode in the story of different artists' engagement with ships, harbors, and sea. It explores new art historical territory, following development of maritime themes from classical modernism to the international art of the present. The more than 100 works include painting and contemporary artistic practices, such as installations, photographs and videos. Included are works by Max Beckmann, Lyonel Feininger, Paul Klee, Max Ernst, Paul Nash, Nicolas de Stael, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Anselm Kiefer and Gerhard Richter.

Curators of the exhibition are Dr. Felix Krämer und Dr. Martin Faass.
