FLY, a Digital Fashion Magazine on DVD |
Foam_ Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam Amsterdam International Fashion Week features a joint exhibition by Foam and FLY, a digital fashion magazine on DVD, A moving image exhibition My World, a previously unpublished selection from the forthcoming issue of FLY will be shown in Foam library, comprising12 photos and a short film. My World is based in the film noir movie tradition. X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes and Truffaut’s The Man who Loved Women•. It examines the photographer’s own vision as he leads us on an astonishing journey through his own imaginary world in a visual exploration of time, identity and sublimation. The viewer is given an insight into the photographer’s perception of events that have shaped his subconscious and identity. FLY is a limited-edition DVD combining fashion, art, music and film. FLY breaks with the conventional style of presenting stories by adding movement, dialogue and music to the two-dimensional format of traditional fashion magazines. The FLY DVD contains a total of 24 short films with a run time of 2.5 hours. In addition to interviews and documentaries, FLY also focuses on collections by leading fashion designers in video clips and short films, FLY cuts through the conventional boundaries of art, music and fashion and opens up a new way of experiencing artistic disciplines. FLY, launched in New York in 2003, is the brainchild of photographer and editor Stephen Blaise and art director Catherine Camille Cushman. Previous issues have included contributions by designers and artists such as Karl Lagerfeld, Hussein Chalayan, John Malkovoch, Araki, Bruce Gilden and Shirin Neshat. The forthcoming issue features designer Yohji Yammamoto. |
