Victoria & Albert Museum Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana transformed the John Madejski Garden with bamboo, a material often featured in their work. The installation includes an outdoor edition of their "Vitoria Regia" seats, designed to mark the V&A’s 150th anniversary. First designed in 2002, these were inspired by the giant water lilies found in the Amazon and named in Queen Victoria’s honour. The Campana brothers have worked with commonplace materials, bright colours and mixed media since 1983. Based in Sao Paulo, and working in partnership with local communities, factories and design companies, Estudio Campana constantly explores new possibilities in furniture making. In 1998 they exhibited at MoMA, New York. Curated by Paola Antonelli, Project 66 was their first international show in tandem with Ingo Maurer. In the same year they sealed their first partnership with Edra, in Italy, with the Vermelha Chair. They have several pieces in the permanent collections of MoMA, New York, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany. |
